John is an experienced practitioner in all areas of the firm’s practice. Having served his apprenticeship with Matheson Ormsby Prentice Solicitors, one of Dublin’s five largest offices, he practiced in the family firm P. O’Connor & Sons Solicitors, Swinford (1980-1988) before setting up his own firm in Dublin. He has an acknowledged expertise in the area of trust and estate work, taxation, complex litigation, conveyancing and commercial work.
He has lectured extensively in the area of trusts, probate litigation, the law of legal capacity in Ireland, precedent wills and taxation implications of property transactions. He was a member of the interview panel for the Mental Health Commission on the appointment of Chairpersons and Legal Advisors to the newly appointed Mental Health Tribunals. |
| Family History |
- John's Grandfather, Pat O'Connor, qualified as a solicitor in October 1900.
- Three of his children were also lawyers, namely T.V O'Connor (John's father) who was President of the Law Society in 1973, Judge John William O'Connor and Moya O'Connor. All John's brothers (one of whom was also President of the Law Society) are lawyers practising in Ireland.
