The Finance (Local Property Tax) (Amendment) (No.2) Bill 2015 is due to be enacted shortly and will postpone the next revaluation date for Local Property Tax from 1 November 2016 to 1 November 2019. This will offer some relief to property owners particularly in the Dublin region given the substantial increase in house prices from the last valuation date in May 2013.
After sustained pressure on the government to introduce some relief and certainty for people in rental accommodation, the Residential Tenancies (Amendment) Act 2015 was signed into law on the 4th December 2015. Under the provisions of same Landlords are temporarily prohibited from conducting a rent review more than once every two years and must furnish the tenant with 90 days notice of any such review. These Provisions came into effect immediately on enactment and the remainder of the legislation will be commenced by aseparate order.
